Where to Eat in Sheffield

Sheffield, a city known for its vibrant university life and rich industrial history, is also a hub for culinary enthusiasts. The city's food scene is a tapestry of flavours, offering a variety of dining experiences that cater to all tastes and budgets. Enjoy everything from fine dining to street food in Sheffield, where its gastronomy is as diverse as its population. Areas such as Abbeydale Road, Ecclesall Road, and Kelham Island are just a few of the hotspots where one can find an array of quirky and quality eateries.

The city's dining scene is not just about the food but also about the unique experiences. For instance, you can enjoy fine dining in a repurposed shipping container or savour the local flavours of Sheffield's own Henderson's Relish in a burger at Slap & Pickle. The city's love for craft beer is evident in establishments like the Two Thirds Beer Co on Abbeydale Road, while the historic Rutland Arms offers a modern take on cask ale.

Best Pubs in Sheffield

Sheffield's reputation as one of Britain's great beer cities is well-earned, with a selection of top breweries and historic pubs. The Sheffield Tap, Shakespeare's, and The Fat Cat are just a few of the venues that showcase the city's commitment to quality beer. These establishments are not only about the drinks; they offer a warm, inviting atmosphere that reflects the city's character.

Many of these traditional pubs will also offer excellent food, beyond the standard pie and chips that you might find everywhere else. For the best pub food in Sheffield, try out the Rutland Arms, The Closed Shop, or The Broadfield.

Sheffield Food Festivals

The city's food and drink culture is celebrated annually during events like Sheffield Beer Week, highlighting the local pub and brewery scene. These events offer an excellent opportunity for visitors and locals alike to explore the depth of Sheffield's culinary offerings. In May, the city comes together once again for the Sheffield Food Festival, showcasing our wide range of local produce.

If you can’t wait until then, there are more regular food halls or mini food festivals in places like Cutlery Works or Peddlers Market. These offer street food and music every weekend, with Cutlery Works opening most weekdays too.

Emerging Hotspots and New Restaurants Sheffield

Looking ahead, Sheffield's food scene continues to evolve with new ventures and unique ideas. Here are a few of the upcoming Sheffield eateries that we’re looking forward to the most!

Ecclesall Road Food Hall

With plans for this new food hall approved just last year, there’s no opening date announced yet. There’s a lot of work to be done as the site will be transformed from a derelict building in Ecclesall Road to a new site with a restaurant hall, bar, shopping, and flexible seating areas for business meetings too.

JÖRO

One of our list of best restaurants and usually based in a shipping container, JÖRO is set to open a new base in Oughtibridge Mill! No opening date has been announced for the site just yet, so keep your eyes peeled for future updates.

5Tara

5Tara is a Punjabi restaurant that’s currently located in Park Hill. The restaurant has plans to open a second city venue in Shalesmoor. This new restaurant will open in February 2024.

SHOP

The SHÖP concept at Oughtibridge Mill will include a bar, coffee shop, and kitchen serving small plates. This development, along with others, indicates a bright future for the city's gastronomy.
